Stickers
never getting to do what theyre meant for
they don’t seem dated when i save them but is very clear as i look back
Dead Flowers
Thinking about their death before they even die
From my dad on my first day of school, from my mom on my birthday, from someone I’m getting to know on our third date.
I don’t press my flowers, I spray them and seal them and hang them upside-down from a rod in my bathroom and I see them in the reflection of the mirror as I brush my teeth.
Salt and Pepper Shakers
Small objects that sit on your kitchen table, meant to be used for just a second here and there, and there is something so endearing about knowing that such love has been put into them anyway.
This accumulation started as I began to take home pairs of shakers that I found at Goodwill, and has now grown beyond myself. The collection that I’ve held onto over the years has been built by my loved ones. My best friends see salt and pepper shakers shaped like strawberries on a trip out of state and bring them home for me. A romantic partner searches for a one-of-a-kind antique set at a local curiosity shop for my birthday. They’re no longer chosen by me, but for me instead. They’ve become a glimpse into outside views of myself by those I cherish the most.
